Leadership Project Breaks Ground for Community Stage

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – The Havasu Leadership Development Class of 2008 held a groundbreaking Thursday, April 17 for the new Community Stage at London Bridge Beach.
The project is funded completely by donations from individuals, civic organizations and the business community. This new stage will replace the one destroyed by fire beneath the London Bridge ten years ago.
The Leadership Development Class, put on by the Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce, is tasked with devising and executing a project that will better the community by their graduation. “We wanted to replace the old stage that had been such a great gathering place for the community. London Bridge Beach already holds some great events that will be enhanced by this project, which can also attract more great community events,” said Joy McKinnon, co-chair of the project.
The class has been working rapidly to complete the project. They have already buried the conduit for electrical service, and Thursday’s ceremony began preparing the site for structural footings.
A ceremony will be held to dedicate the facility on May 31. The whole community is invited to the kickoff event. “There will be musical and performance acts as well as activities for children” said Kristen Shields, a member of the class who is helping to arrange the dedication ceremony. The ceremony starts at 3 that afternoon, and runs until 9 that evening.
There is still a lot of work to be completed on the project, and the class is still seeking donations. For more information, or to help, contact McKinnon at (928) 855-6626 x414.
